WordPress Setup
The Kyni SEO WordPress plugin connects your WordPress site to Kyni, enabling article publishing, data sync, and monitoring.
Requirements
- WordPress 6.0 or higher
- Administrator access
- PHP 8.0 or higher (usually included with modern WordPress hosts)
Installation
Step 1: Get the connection token
- Log in to app.kyniseo.com
- Click Add Site and select WordPress
- Enter your site URL (e.g.,
https://yoursite.com) - Click Generate Connection Token
- Copy the token shown on screen (it looks like a long random string)
Keep this token safe—you’ll need it in a moment.
Step 2: Install the plugin
- Log in to your WordPress admin at
https://yoursite.com/wp-admin - Go to Plugins → Add New
- Search for Kyni SEO
- Click Install Now (next to the Kyni SEO plugin by Kyni Inc.)
- Click Activate once installation finishes
Step 3: Connect to Kyni
- In your WordPress admin, go to Kyni SEO → Settings
- Paste your connection token into the Connection Token field
- Click Verify & Connect
- You should see Connection Status: Connected in green
If you see Connection Failed, check:
- The token is correct (copy-paste again if unsure)
- Your WordPress site is accessible from the internet
- No firewall or security plugin is blocking the connection
Step 4: Configure settings (optional)
The plugin works out of the box, but you can customize:
Publishing Options
- Default post status: Draft, Scheduled, or Published
- Auto-category: Assign articles to a specific category
- Author: Which user publishes articles (Kyni uses Admin by default)
Sync Options
- Track delete events: Enable to notify Kyni when posts are deleted (recommended)
- Sync schedule data: Enable to sync internal linking (recommended)
Leave defaults if you’re unsure—they work for most sites.
What the plugin does
The Kyni SEO plugin:
- Publishes articles — receives articles from Kyni and posts them to WordPress
- Monitors changes — detects when you delete, trash, or restore posts
- Syncs metadata — shares publishing dates, author info, and URLs with Kyni
- Tracks links — monitors internal links to measure content interconnection
- Never modifies content — only publishes what you approve, never edits existing posts
Safety and permissions
The plugin:
- Only makes changes you explicitly authorize from Kyni
- Uses HMAC-SHA256 encryption for all connections
- Can be deactivated or uninstalled anytime
- Stores your connection token encrypted in your database
- Never collects personal data beyond what’s needed to function
Updating the plugin
WordPress will notify you when a plugin update is available. Click Update Now to get the latest version with security fixes and features.
Troubleshooting
Connection keeps failing:
- Verify your site is accessible at the URL you entered (visit
https://yoursite.comin a browser) - Check your host doesn’t block outbound API requests
- Try regenerating a new token in Kyni and pasting it again
Articles not publishing:
- Verify connection status is Connected in plugin settings
- Check that the default post status is set correctly
- Look in WordPress Posts → All Posts (article might be in draft)
Too many error messages in WordPress logs:
- This is usually a temporary network issue
- The plugin retries automatically
- Contact support if it persists
Uninstalling
If you want to stop using Kyni:
- Go to Plugins in your WordPress admin
- Click Deactivate next to Kyni SEO
- Click Delete to remove the plugin files
- In Kyni, click Disconnect on your site settings
Your posts stay in WordPress—they’re not deleted when you disconnect.
